TikTok LIVE Requirements 2026: Age, Followers and Gifts

Going LIVE is often the first way a new TikTok creator can earn money, because viewers can send gifts during a stream. But the LIVE button does not show up for everyone. TikTok decides who can stream based on age, follower count, region and account standing. Here is what each requirement means and what to do if LIVE is missing.

The TikTok LIVE requirements at a glance

How old do you have to be to go LIVE on TikTok?

18. TikTok raised the minimum age to host a LIVE from 16 to 18 on 23 November 2022, according to its Newsroom post Enhancing the LIVE community experience from October 2022. Older articles that say 16 are out of date. TikTok's Community Guidelines today say you must be 18 and older to go LIVE and to send gifts to a creator during a LIVE.

TikTok may ask you to prove your age before your first stream. If it cannot confirm that you are an adult, the LIVE option stays locked even if you meet every other requirement.

How many followers do you need to go LIVE on TikTok?

The usual answer is 1,000 followers. TikTok does not publish one global number, and in a May 2024 Newsroom post about LIVE it said it was testing different minimum follower requirements and that some newer creators may need to complete extra steps, such as confirming their age. So you may see LIVE a little before or after 1,000, depending on your region and account.

Beware of anyone selling a way to go LIVE without followers. There is no official shortcut, and modified apps or LIVE unlock services break TikTok's rules and can get the account banned.

Do TikTok LIVE requirements differ by country?

Yes. TikTok's help center says the ability to go LIVE is only available to users who meet its requirements based on age and region. LIVE gifts are not offered in every country, and TikTok does not publish a full list. Some countries also have a higher age for paid features. TikTok has been banned in India since 2020, so none of this applies there.

Region also matters later. Creator Rewards, which pays for views rather than gifts, is only open to accounts registered in eligible countries: in 2026 the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, Brazil and Mexico.

What is TikTok LIVE Studio and who can use it?

LIVE Studio is TikTok's free desktop app for Windows and Mac. It lets you stream from a computer with game capture, a webcam, scenes and overlays, instead of streaming from your phone. Access is checked separately from the phone app. TikTok does not publish fixed LIVE Studio thresholds; streaming guides such as Livepush say eligibility depends on factors like follower count, account age, recent LIVE activity and any past LIVE suspensions. If LIVE Studio says you are not eligible, keep streaming from the phone app first.

Some accounts can also get a stream key to use with tools like OBS. TikTok only offers this to some accounts, and you will see it in LIVE settings if yours qualifies.

Who can receive gifts on TikTok LIVE?

To receive gifts you must be 18 or older, be able to go LIVE and have an account in good standing. Gifts turn into Diamonds, which eligible creators can cash out. TikTok's May 2024 LIVE update also introduced LIVE Monetization Guidelines: content that is graphic, inauthentic or low quality is not eligible to earn money through LIVE features, and creators who break these rules may have LIVE monetization restricted.

Why can't I go LIVE on TikTok?

1. You are under 18, or TikTok could not confirm your age.
2. You have fewer followers than the threshold for your region, usually around 1,000.
3. LIVE is not available in your country or region.
4. You have recent Community Guidelines violations. TikTok says violations can lead to temporary restrictions on LIVE or LIVE features, or a ban.
5. Your app is out of date. Update TikTok and restart it.
6. Still stuck: go to Profile, the three-line menu, Settings and privacy, Report a problem, and choose the LIVE topic.

TikTok LIVE rules that can cost you access

• Breaking the Community Guidelines during a stream can close the LIVE, lead to temporary LIVE restrictions or, for serious cases, an account ban.
• Content not suitable for young people must be set as an adult-only LIVE (18+).
• Graphic, inauthentic or low-quality streams cannot earn through LIVE features, under TikTok's LIVE Monetization Guidelines.

LIVE gifts vs Creator Rewards

LIVE gifts can start at 1,000 followers, but they depend on a few generous viewers and on how often you stream. Creator Rewards pays for qualified views on original videos longer than one minute, and needs 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the last 30 days. Many creators use LIVE to earn early and Creator Rewards for steadier income later.

If you would rather start above both thresholds, our monetized TikTok accounts come with 10,000+ organic followers and Creator Rewards already on. Payouts go to the account holder's verified details, so if you live outside an eligible country, ask our support how payouts work for you before you order.
