YouTube Inauthentic Content Policy (2026): What It Is and How to Fix It

YouTube Inauthentic Content Policy (2026): What It Is and How to Fix It - cover image
Quick answer: "inauthentic content" is YouTube's name, since July 2025, for videos that look mass-produced or repetitive: template-made uploads, slideshows or scrolling text with little narrative, the same story over and over, and generic AI videos with no insight of your own. It was called "repetitious content" before, and YouTube says this kind of content was never eligible to earn. You fix it by making each video clearly different and clearly yours, then appealing within 21 days or reapplying later.

If YouTube rejected or demonetized your channel for "inauthentic content", you are not alone. Searches for the term grew roughly tenfold in the last year as faceless and AI channels hit the rule. This guide explains what the policy actually says, how it differs from reused content, and what to change before you appeal.

What YouTube means by inauthentic content

YouTube's channel monetization policies describe it as content that "looks like it's made with a template" with little variation between videos. In July 2025 YouTube renamed the policy from "repetitious content" to "inauthentic content" and said this type of content "has always been ineligible for monetization". In other words, the rule did not get stricter overnight; the name and the enforcement focus changed.

Inauthentic vs reused content

Inauthentic contentReused content
The problemYour own videos are too similar or template-madeYour videos repurpose other people's content without enough change
Typical channelAI story channels, quote slideshows, auto-generated top-10 listsMovie clip edits, TikTok compilations, re-uploads
The fixMake every video different: real script, real narration, real varietyAdd your own commentary, story or heavy editing so viewers see a meaningful difference

Signs your channel looks inauthentic to a reviewer

  • Thumbnails, titles and structure are almost identical across dozens of uploads.
  • The same AI voice reads a generic script on every video, with no opinion or research behind it.
  • Videos are mostly stock images, slideshows or scrolling text.
  • You upload many videos a day from one template.
  • A viewer could not tell who made the channel or why it is different from ten others.

How to fix it before you appeal

  1. Read the email from YouTube and note the date. You have 21 days to appeal a rejection.
  2. List your videos and mark the template-made ones. Make the worst of them private instead of deleting them; YouTube reviews the channel as it is when you appeal and says not to delete videos before appealing.
  3. Change how you make new videos: write real scripts, add your own narration or face, vary the format, and show research or opinion.
  4. Upload a few new videos that clearly show the new standard, so the reviewer sees the direction.
  5. Record an appeal video that explains how you make your content, then submit it from YouTube Studio → Earn. See how to make a YouTube appeal video.

What is inauthentic content on YouTube?

It is YouTube's name since July 2025 for mass-produced or repetitive content, such as template-made videos, slideshows with little narrative, the same story repeated, and generic AI videos. It used to be called repetitious content and cannot be monetized.

Is AI content inauthentic content?

Not automatically. AI-assisted videos can be monetized if they are original and add value. AI videos made from generic templates that look mass-produced are inauthentic and cannot earn.

Can I get monetized again after an inauthentic content rejection?

Yes. Fix the channel, then appeal within 21 days or reapply after 30 days (90 days after an appeal is rejected or after later rejections).

Is inauthentic content the same as reused content?

No. Inauthentic content is about your own videos being too repetitive or template-made. Reused content is about repurposing other people's content without a meaningful difference.

Should I delete inauthentic videos before appealing?

YouTube says not to delete videos before submitting an appeal, because the channel is reviewed as it is. Making weak videos private is usually the safer option.
