Assumes your daily growth stays the same. Watch hours and Shorts views roll off after 12 months and 90 days, so a daily rate below 1/365 of the hours target (or 1/90 of the Shorts target) never qualifies.

Too long? A channel that is already in the Partner Program keeps monetization under the 2027 rules if it accepts the updated terms. See monetized YouTube channels →

How to get there faster

  • Make longer videos (8+ minutes) in one niche; watch hours grow with watch time, not views.
  • Turn your best Shorts into long videos and link them, so Shorts viewers become long-video watchers.
  • Use playlists and end screens to keep viewers watching your next video.

Check where you stand with the YouTube monetization checker, and read the 8,000 watch hours rule and buying a monetized channel before 2027.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get monetized on YouTube?

It depends on your daily growth. At 8 watch hours and 3 new subscribers a day, reaching 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours takes over a year. Enter your own numbers above to see your date.

What changes in February 2027?

From 1 February 2027, new applicants need 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 public watch hours in 12 months or 20 million Shorts views in 90 days. Channels already in the Partner Program keep long-video monetization if they accept the updated terms by 31 January 2027.

Why does the calculator say never?

Watch hours count over the last 12 months and Shorts views over the last 90 days. If you gain fewer than 1/365 of the hours target per day, old hours roll off before you reach it.

Where do I find my public watch hours?

In YouTube Studio → Earn. YouTube shows your subscribers, public watch hours in the last 365 days and Shorts views in the last 90 days.
