Buy a Monetized YouTube Channel Before 2027? What the New Rules Change

Buy a Monetized YouTube Channel Before 2027? What the New Rules Change - cover image
Quick answer: from 1 February 2027, new channels need 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 public watch hours in 12 months (or 20 million Shorts views in 90 days) to join the YouTube Partner Program, double today's bar. Channels already in the program keep long-video monetization as long as they accept the updated terms by 31 January 2027 and stay active. That is why a channel that is monetized today is worth more after the change than before it.

Why this matters if you are thinking of buying

  • The slow part gets twice as slow. Most new channels already need 6 to 18 months to reach 4,000 hours; 8,000 hours roughly doubles the grind for the same channel.
  • Monetized channels become scarcer. Fewer channels will qualify each month, while channels already in the program keep their status if they stay active and accept the terms.
  • Inactive channels lose out. YouTube can remove monetization from channels that have not uploaded or posted for 6 months, so a bought channel needs a posting plan from day one.
Every channel we sell is already in the YouTube Partner Program, with 1,000+ organic subscribers, moved to your own Gmail in 12–24 hours with a 30-day replacement or refund.See monetized YouTube channels →

What to do after buying, before 31 January 2027

  1. Become primary owner on your own Gmail (YouTube makes you wait 7 days after being added as owner).
  2. Link your own AdSense for YouTube account in YouTube Studio → Earn. See how to change AdSense after buying a channel.
  3. Accept the updated YouTube Partner Program terms when Studio asks, before 31 January 2027.
  4. Upload or post at least every few weeks so the channel never looks inactive.

Not sure how far your own channel is from the new bar? Use the YouTube monetization checker, and read the 8,000 watch hours rule for the full detail.

Will a monetized channel I buy lose monetization in 2027?

Not because of the new thresholds. YouTube says channels already in the Partner Program keep long-video monetization if the owner accepts the updated terms by 31 January 2027 and the channel stays active.

Is it worth buying a YouTube channel in 2026?

It is worth it if you want to earn from your first upload and will keep posting. The bar for new channels doubles in February 2027, which makes an already-monetized channel a bigger shortcut than before.

What are the YouTube monetization requirements in 2027?

1,000 subscribers plus either 8,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 20 million Shorts views in the last 90 days, for channels applying from 1 February 2027.
