How to Change AdSense After Buying a YouTube Channel (2026)

How to Change AdSense After Buying a YouTube Channel (2026) - cover image
Quick answer: once you are owner of the channel, open YouTube Studio → Earn, find the linked AdSense account and select Change. Sign in to your own AdSense (or AdSense for YouTube) account, accept the association, and set your ad preferences. Linking an existing account usually takes minutes; a new one can take several days to 2–3 weeks. You can only change the linked account once every 32 days.

Before you start

  • Be primary owner first. After a seller adds you as owner, YouTube makes you wait 7 days before you can become primary owner. Change AdSense after that.
  • Have your own AdSense account ready, or be ready to create one with your real name, address and payment details. One person can have only one AdSense account.
  • Don't let the seller change it for you. The AdSense account decides who gets paid.

Step by step: change the AdSense account

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio on the channel and open Earn.
  2. Under the Partner Program options, look at the linked AdSense account and select Change.
  3. Re-enter your password when asked.
  4. Sign in to your existing AdSense or AdSense for YouTube account, or create a new one.
  5. Check that your channel URL is listed under "Your website" and accept the association.
  6. Back in YouTube Studio, set your monetization preferences (ad types for new uploads).

Common mistakes

  • Changing AdSense while you are still a normal owner, then losing the channel to recovery by the old owner. Secure primary ownership first.
  • Creating a second AdSense account because the first was disapproved. Only one account per person is allowed.
  • Leaving the channel inactive while the AdSense change is pending. Keep uploading.

Can I change the AdSense account on a monetized YouTube channel?

Yes. In YouTube Studio → Earn, select Change next to the linked AdSense account and link your own. YouTube allows one change every 32 days.

How long does it take to change AdSense on YouTube?

Linking an existing AdSense account usually takes a few minutes. A new AdSense for YouTube account can take several days and sometimes 2–3 weeks to be approved.

Do I lose monetization when I change AdSense?

Not if the new association completes. YouTube says monetization begins once the association is complete, so keep an active AdSense for YouTube account linked.
