YouTube Play Buttons: Silver, Gold & Diamond Requirements (2026)

YouTube Play Buttons: Silver, Gold & Diamond Requirements (2026) - cover image
Quick answer: YouTube gives a Silver Play Button at 100,000 subscribers, Gold at 1 million, Diamond at 10 million and Red Diamond at 100 million. You don't apply: eligible channels get a notification with a redemption code in YouTube Studio within about 10 days of the milestone, after YouTube reviews the channel. The award is free, though some countries charge customs duties, and it usually arrives in 2 to 4 weeks.

The YouTube Play Button is the plaque YouTube sends creators when their channel reaches a big subscriber milestone. Officially they are called YouTube Creator Awards, and every creator remembers the day the Silver one arrives. Here is every Play Button level, the rules your channel has to meet in 2026, how to redeem the award and why some channels never get one.

Who is eligible for a Play Button in 2026?

Hitting the subscriber number is not enough. YouTube says Creator Awards are given at its sole discretion and reviews each channel first. According to the official page, your channel needs to:

  • Be in good standing, with no copyright strikes and no artificially inflated subscriber counts.
  • Have uploaded within the last 6 months.
  • Have no active Community Guidelines violation and none in the last 365 days.
  • Not be rejected or suspended from the YouTube Partner Program, and not be linked to a terminated account.
  • Post original main content. Channels built mainly on compilations, mixes or curation may not be eligible, and deceptive, spammy or scam content is excluded.

You do not need to be in the YouTube Partner Program to receive a Play Button. But if you bought subscribers, the channel can fail review: YouTube specifically excludes channels with inflated subscriber counts.

How to redeem your YouTube Play Button

  1. Reach the milestone (for example 100,000 subscribers for Silver).
  2. Wait for the notification in YouTube Studio, which YouTube says arrives within about 10 days if your channel is eligible. It contains a unique redemption code.
  3. Open the redemption website, enter the code, your channel name and shipping details, then place the order.
  4. Use your full legal name for shipping and answer the courier quickly if they ask for documents.
  5. Check the award when it arrives and report any damage within seven days with photos.

Lost the code? YouTube's Creator Awards page has an eligibility check that can give you a new one. Awards are not available in a few countries, including Russia, Iran, Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela.

How long does a Play Button take to arrive?

Usually 2 to 4 weeks after you redeem it, depending on your country and customs. The award itself is free, but in some countries the creator has to pay customs duties or taxes, which YouTube says it cannot legally cover.

Can you buy a YouTube Play Button?

No. Official Play Buttons are only issued by YouTube to the channel that earned them, and YouTube's rules say they are for personal use and may not be sold. Plaques you see for sale online are replicas. Selling a real award can make a creator lose it and future awards.

How much does a channel with a Silver Play Button earn?

YouTube doesn't pay per subscriber, so a Play Button does not come with money. What a 100,000-subscriber channel earns depends on its monthly views, niche and where viewers live. A channel with 1 million long-video views a month from US viewers might earn roughly $3,000 to $11,000, while the same views from lower-paying countries earn far less.

The fastest honest route to your first milestones

Most creators who reach Silver did it on a channel that was already earning, because ad revenue lets them keep posting. If you are starting from zero, the first wall is the Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours, and from 1 February 2027 new applicants need 8,000 watch hours or 20 million Shorts views. A channel that is already monetized lets you earn from your first upload while you grow toward 100,000.

How many subscribers do you need for a YouTube Play Button?

100,000 for the Silver Play Button, 1 million for Gold, 10 million for Diamond and 100 million for Red Diamond.

Do you get a Play Button at 1,000 subscribers?

No. There is no physical award at 1,000 or 10,000 subscribers. The first Play Button is Silver at 100,000.

Do you have to apply for a YouTube Play Button?

No. If your channel is eligible, YouTube sends a notification with a redemption code in YouTube Studio within about 10 days of the milestone.

Is the YouTube Play Button free?

Yes, the award is free. In some countries you may have to pay customs duties or taxes when it is delivered.

Why didn't I get my Play Button?

YouTube reviews each channel. Common reasons are recent Community Guidelines strikes, copyright strikes, inflated subscriber counts, no uploads in the last 6 months, or mostly non-original content.

Do you need to be monetized to get a Play Button?

No. YouTube Partner Program membership is not required, but the channel must not have been rejected or suspended from the program.
