Buy a YouTube Channel or Start From Scratch? Honest 2026 Answer

We sell monetized YouTube channels, so you might expect us to tell you that buying is always the better choice. It is not. For many people, starting a new channel from scratch is the right move. For others, buying saves months of work they would rather spend on content. This guide compares both honestly, with the maths, so you can choose.
Buy vs start from scratch: side by side
| Start from scratch | Buy a monetized channel | |
|---|---|---|
| Time to monetization | Months or longer, and some channels never reach it | Already monetized. With us, your Gmail is added as an owner within 12–24 hours, and you become primary owner after YouTube's 7-day wait |
| Upfront cost | Close to zero, apart from equipment and software | From $399.99 with us, far more for channels with big revenue |
| Main risk | Spending months without reaching the thresholds | Seller fraud, recovery, hidden strikes or a bad channel |
| Control | Full control of the name, niche and history from day one | You inherit the channel's history, audience and past uploads |
| Audience fit | Every subscriber came for your content | Existing subscribers may not care about your new videos |
| What you learn | Everything, step by step | Less about growth, more about running a channel |
| Effect of the 2027 change | New applicants need 8,000 watch hours from 1 February 2027 | Channels already in the program are not affected by the new thresholds |

What starting from scratch really takes
Today, to join the YouTube Partner Program with full ad revenue, a channel needs 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million public Shorts views in the last 90 days. After you apply, YouTube says a decision usually comes in about one month.
There is no reliable figure for how long it takes an average new channel to qualify, and we will not make one up. Some creators get there in a few months. Many never do. What is clear is that it takes steady uploading, patience and some luck with the algorithm.
Who should start from scratch
Honestly, a lot of people. Starting from zero is the better choice if any of these describe you.
- You want a personal brand. If the channel is about you, your face or your expertise, you want every subscriber to have come for you. A bought audience followed someone else.
- You have more time than money. A new channel costs almost nothing. If $400 to $500 is a big expense for you, spend it on a microphone or editing software and start uploading.
- You have never made videos before. Buying a channel does not teach you scripting, editing, thumbnails or titles. Learning those on a new channel costs nothing if a video flops.
- You are not sure about your niche yet. A new channel lets you test topics freely. A bought channel comes with an audience that expects a certain type of content.
- You want full control of the history: no past uploads, no old claims and no previous owners.
Who benefits from buying a monetized channel
- Creators who already know how to make videos and do not want to spend months reaching the thresholds again.
- Faceless or automation channels, where the content is not tied to one person and a fresh start brings no extra benefit.
- Agencies and small businesses that need a channel earning from ads now, not next year.
- Creators targeting high-RPM audiences who want a channel already set up for that region.
- People whose own channel was rejected and who do not want to wait 30 or 90 days to reapply.
Even then, buying only removes the waiting. It does not create views. If your videos do not get watched, a monetized channel will earn very little, just like a new one.
Payback maths: how many views to earn back the price?
Divide the price by your RPM and multiply by 1,000. That gives the monetized long-video views you need to earn the price back. Most long-video channels earn about $1 to $10 per 1,000 views.
| Channel price | RPM $2 | RPM $4 | RPM $8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| $399.99 (Asian & Worldwide audience) | About 200,000 views | About 100,000 views | About 50,000 views |
| $499.99 (US, UK & Europe audience) | About 250,000 views | About 125,000 views | About 62,500 views |
Our own arithmetic. Shorts pay far less, about $0.03 to $0.10 per 1,000 views, so Shorts-only payback takes millions of views.
If your videos would get those views anyway, the question is how many months of earnings you lose while a new channel waits to qualify. If you are not sure you can get the views, start from scratch first.
What buying does not solve
- Content quality. YouTube pays for views, and views still depend on your videos.
- Originality rules. Re-uploaded or copied content can lose monetization at a review, whoever owns the channel.
- Audience mismatch. If you change the niche completely, old subscribers may stop watching. Move slowly.
- Platform rules. YouTube does not officially support account sales. Brand Account ownership transfer is the supported way to move ownership.
How the 2027 threshold change shifts the maths
From 1 February 2027, new applicants need 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days, or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. Channels already in the YouTube Partner Program are not affected by the new entry thresholds. For anyone starting from scratch the road gets longer, which makes an already-monetized channel save more time than before. If building it yourself suits you, the extra hours are an obstacle, not a dead end.
A middle option: aged channels
If you want to build monetization yourself but skip the brand-new account stage, an aged YouTube channel is a cheaper step. It is not monetized, so you still need to reach the thresholds, but you start with an account that already has some history.
Our Standard aged channels are 1–2 years old with few or no videos. Premium channels are 3+ years old, with some older videos and subscribers and the original email included.
If you buy: what to check first
- A live screen recording of YouTube Studio, showing the Earn page, analytics, audience countries and strike status.
- A Brand Account ownership transfer to your own Google account. Never accept a Gmail login and password.
- Original content on the channel, not re-uploads or compilations.
- A written replacement or refund policy, and a payment method you can dispute.
A simple way to decide
- Is the channel about you personally? If yes, start from scratch.
- Do you already know how to make videos that get watched? If no, start from scratch and learn first.
- Is $400 to $500 easy to spend, and is your time worth more than that? If yes, buying may make sense.
- Do you have a content plan for the next three months? If no, wait. A monetized channel with no new videos earns nothing.
If you have answered your way to buying, our channels are already in the YouTube Partner Program with 1,000+ organic subscribers. Delivered within 12–24 hours, with ownership moved to your own Gmail. Every order has a 30-day replacement or refund, plus 30 days of support.
Is it better to buy a YouTube channel or start a new one?
It depends on your goals. Start from scratch if you are building a personal brand, have more time than money, or are new to making videos. Buying makes sense if you already make videos and want ad revenue without waiting for the thresholds and review.
Will a bought channel get views automatically?
No. Buying removes the wait for monetization, not the need for good videos. Old subscribers may not watch new content, especially if you change the niche.
How many views do I need to earn back a bought channel?
Divide the price by your RPM and multiply by 1,000. At a $4 RPM, a $499.99 channel needs about 125,000 monetized long-video views.
Can I build a personal brand on a bought channel?
You can, but it is harder. The existing audience followed different content. If the brand is you, a new channel usually works better.
Should I start from scratch before the 2027 change?
The current 4,000 hour rule applies to new applicants until 1 February 2027. From that date, new applicants need 8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days, so starting sooner gives you more time under the current bar.
